FLOWER POWER

BY JOHNNY WHITFIELD
COURIER-TIMES EDITOR

Some five decades ago, beatniks, Vietnam War protesters and young radicals adopted “Flower Power” as one of the mottos of their seismic cultural movements.

The catchy phrase evoked images of bucolic pastoral scenes capable of calming the most savage situations.

That’s true, in part, because flowers are themselves colorful bursts of color that catch your attention and ask you to look at them and come just a little bit closer to nature.

In Person County, there’s no shortage of natural beauty. That can be seen in some of the images on this page. This collection of floral beauty comes from readers of The Courier-Times who responded to our request for pictures of pretty flowers taken across the county.

The timing is perfect, with spring just around the corner. Some of the images you see displayed on this page will be born out in gardens, yards and fields and along roadsides all around the county in the coming months.
