David Thomas "DT" Neal

David Thomas "DT" Neal, 82, of Bowmantown Road died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018.  He was born in Person County to the late Spurgeon and Sarah Gillis Neal.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Ann Neal; son, Bryan Timothy Neal; and one sister, Travis Day. 

DT followed in the footsteps of his father, Spurgeon Neal as a successful business man.  He was store owner/operator of Neal's Store for many years.  He and his brother Spurgeon were partners as tobacco farmers, Star Warehouse owners located in South Boston, Virginia, and Neal's Farm and Auto owners.   DT was a member of the Tobacco Growers Association.

DT was a devout Christian man and leader in the church as well as the community. He held many leadership roles at Triple Springs Baptist Church such as chairman of the deacons, and Sunday School teacher.  He and his wife Shirley enjoyed attending many Southern Baptist Conventions and pastor conferences with their pastor and good friends Buddy and Peggy Hall.  He knew the Bible well and often quoted scriptures from memory.  DT was a member of the Gideons National Organization. 

Surviving are his daughter, Wendy Neal Lancaster, of Burlington; one brother, Spurgeon Neal and wife Sharon; one sister, Katie Gravitte; three grandchildren, Sabrina Collins Jones and husband Rob, David Thomas Collins, and Nathan Raymond Stark; and two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Madison.

Funeral services will be held 11  a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2018 at Triple Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Harris and the Rev. Alan Bottoms officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2018 at Triple Springs Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Elliott, Chris Elliott, Stacy Elliott, Wendell Day, Bud Williams, and Mark Yarbrough.
