Senior wins DAR award

Dillon Weaver Dillon Weaver In November of 2017, Roxboro Community School (RCS) Senior Dillon Weaver won the Daughters of American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen Award for the school.

This award is a scholarship contest, created in 1934, and is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.

Teachers and peers select the winning students because they demonstrate outstanding qualities to an excellent degree.

There are two winners for the award from RCS and Person High School (PHS). To decide who is first and second, the contestants have to participate in an essay contest.

The essay is timed and is to be done at school. The DAR committee examines the essays, along with a transcript and two letters of recommendation for each student.

On Jan. 22, Weaver learned via email that he had won second place.

“I was very surprised because there were a lot of other people that I felt would have really deserved this recognition. It was also an honor to be voted on by the teachers and staff of RCS.” said Weaver.
