Alma Shotwell Tingen

Alma Shotwell Tingen, 97, of 6460 Boston Road, died Saturday, February 3, 2018 at her home. Born in Person County, she was the daughter of the late James Tensley "Tennie" Shotwell and Cleo Walker Shotwell. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Ira Tingen and son, Wallace "Wally" Tingen, Jr.

She was the oldest living member of Mill Creek Baptist Church where she started playing the piano as a young child.  She later became the church organist for over 60 years. She was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics.

Surviving are her two children: Chris Tingen of Roxboro and Dare T. Swaim of Asheboro; six grandchildren: John Bristow "Brit" Swaim, II, Dare Elizabeth "Cissy" Lacopo, Ann Taylor Swaim, James Christopher Tingen, Jr., William "Wil" Ira Tingen, and Kevin Morton Tingen; four great-grandchildren: Morgan, Sarah, JD, and Jimmy.

Visitation will be held from 6:30-8 PM Monday, February 5, 2018 at the Brooks & White Chapel.

Funeral service will be 11 AM Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the Mill Creek Baptist Church with the Pastor Dion Loving officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Tingen, Wil Tingen, James Tingen, Merritt Buchanan, Frankie Gentry, Steve Tingen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robin Cummings and Deborah Woody Seamster.
