Rocket cross country finishes third in meet

The Person High School boys’ cross country team finished third in its Mid- State Athletic Conference meet Tuesday in Greensboro.

Host Northern Guilford swept the top seven places and coasted to the team victory with 15 points.

Western Alamance was second with 65 points, followed by Person (67) and McMichael (104).

Davian Street was the Rockets’ fastest runner with an eighth-place finish of 19:02. William Bailey finished 11th with a time of 19:42, while Logan Bates was 14th at 20:20.

Zion Hughes picked up a top-20 finish at 21:00, while Demetre Morton (25:11) wrapped up the Rockets’ top-five runners.

The Person girls’ team finished third in the meet at 75 points, behind Northern Guilford (17) and Mc- Michael (71).

Magen Elliott was the Rockets’ top finisher with a fourth-place time of 22:16. Freshman Taylor Sullivan finished 13th with a time of 25:18, followed by Abby Mayer’s 29th finish (29:04).

Maggie Holeman (34:31) and Maggie Cortes (34:35) wrapped up the Rockets’ scoring runners.
