Four PHS retirees honored

Lisa Garrett Lisa Garrett At the end of the 2016- 2017 school year, four women who have given years of service to Person High School will begin their retirement — Loudell Medford, Lisa Garrett, Sally Humphries and Lisa Wesley.

Lisa Garrett has taught 30 and one half years of her career at PHS.

Garrett attended Northern High School but claims to be “a full blooded Rocket blue fan.”

Garrett earned a Bachelor of Science degree in management with a concentration in merchandising from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

During her tenure, she has taught marketing, business management and personal finance classes. In retirement, Garrett plans to continue her role as a farm wife and possibly seek employment in a customer service, human resources or bookkeeping field.

Garrett said, “I will miss the opportunity to share love and build appropriate relationships with my students and colleagues,” and advises students that “good choices equal good results.”

Lisa Wesley Lisa Wesley Lisa Wesley has spent her teaching career of 29 years at PHS.

She has taught English courses, journalism, and theater arts. Wesley is a graduate of PHS who continued her education at East Carolina University.

Wesley plans to enjoy rest and relaxation with hopes of vacationing at Walt Disney World, the beach, and a trip to Ireland.

Wesley said,”I have met some of my dearest friends and colleagues here,” and advises students to “do the best you can in high school. You are preparing for your entire future. Make good decisions based on what you know is right.”

To her colleagues, she says, “Hang in there.”

Like Wesley, Loudell Medford has spent her teaching career of 29 years at Person High School and is also a graduate of the school.

Loudell Medford Loudell Medford Medford earned her Bachelor of Science from Elon University, a teaching certificate from Meredith College, a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a master’s degree from North Carolina State University. She has taught fashion merchandising, entrepreneurship, personal finance, business law, travel and tourism marketing, selling fundamentals, and principles of business.

In retirement, Medford plans to continue managing her real estate business, travel, spend time with family and friends, and volunteer with children and the elderly.

Medford said, “Having both of my daughters graduate from Person High School was a memory I’ll always cherish.”

She advises students to “work hard to achieve your goals and never ever give up.”

Sally Humphries has given 20 of her 29 years in education to PHS.

Sally Humphries Sally Humphries Humphries graduated from Person High School and attended East Carolina University. She has taught human growth and development, human relations, consumer economics, sociology, psychology, science, and pre-employment classes.

Humphries also worked with Support Services as an instructional management and career development coordinator.

In retirement, Humphries plans to enjoy time with family, church family, and friends. She plans to do community service, travel, and work in her garden.

Humphries said, “I will miss working with an exceptional group of colleagues and students.”
