Lucile Blackard Hicks

Lucile Blackard Hicks “Mama Cile”, age 99 1/2, of 1186 Billy Hicks Road, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2016. Born in Person County, Mrs. Hicks was the daughter of the late John Blackard and Lucy Moore Blackard. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Graham Hicks; two sisters, Cleo Wrenn and Nellie Cobb; four brothers, George Blackard, Irving Blackard, Garland Blackard and Tolly Blackard;
She was a true Christian and blessing to her family and all who knew her. She was a member of Brookland United Methodist Church for over 65 years and New Brook United Methodist Church for the last few years since they merged. She taught Sunday School for over 80 years. She had a heart of gold and loved everyone. “Mama Cile” was a great mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Mrs. Hicks is survived by her six children, Douglas Hicks (Pat) of Wake Forrest, Lucy H. Hawkins (Randy) of Timberlake, David Hicks of the home, Frances H. Powell (Gordon) of Roxboro, Gary Hicks (Lynne) of Cary, and Gayle H. Peed (Ronnie) of Roxboro; her twin sister, Mary B. Robinson of Durham; 10 grandchildren, Teresa H. Day (Bobby), Tim Hicks (Brooke), Julie Masten, Tara O. Hubbard (Justin), Lynsey O. Hubbard (Jonathan), Anderson H. Garrett (Adam), Beth H. Hefner (Tyler), Bryan Peed, Jeremy Peed, and Megan Peed; six step-grandchildren: Mark Wallace (Ashley), Monica Wallace, Glenn Powell (Tonya), Craig Powell (Tammy), Mackenzie Lamb, and Christian Lamb; twelve great-grandchildren: Cameron, Carter, and Vance Day, Eli, Hudson, and Harper Hicks, Anna Carol, Cole, and Kate Masten, Jake and Riley Hubbard, and Caroline Garrett; four step great-grandchildren: Laural Wallace, Davis, Connor and Camden Powell.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the Brooks & White Funeral Home and other times at the home of Gayle and Ronnie Peed (1188 Billy Hicks Road, Roxboro).
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, at New Brook United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tyler Daniels and the Rev. Norma Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Person Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tim Hicks, Jeremy Peed, Bryan Peed, Bobby Day, Tommy Masten, Justin Hubbard, Jonathan Hubbard, Adam Garrett, Tyler Hefner, Kyle Gentry and Christian Lamb.
