Drug charges lodged at Wednesday checkpoint

Deputies with the Person County Sheriff ’s Office arrested a Roxboro man Wednesday evening on drug-related charges while they were conducting a license checkpoint at the intersection of Oxford Road and Brookland Church Road.

Kevin Devon Blackwell, 28, of 1354 Old Durham Rd. was charged with felony counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to sheriff ’s office officials, a smell of marijuana was emanating from Blackwell’s vehicle when he stopped at the license checkpoint. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, aided by a K-9 officer, deputies reportedly discovered 56.2 grams of marijuana, which was packed in six separate plastic bags.

Deputies also reportedly seized digital scales, grinders and cigarette rollers from the vehicle, as well as over $300 cash from Blackwell.

Blackwell was held under a $20,000 secured bond. warants served

Roxboro police served Durham County arrest warrants of a Durham man Tuesday.

Demario McLean, 24, of Durham was charged with felony counts of larceny and interfering with an electronic monitoring device.

Warrants for his arrest were issued Oct. 30 in Durham County.

McLean was jailed under a $25,000 secured bond.

Felony trafic charge

Sheriff ’s deputies arrested Terrence Kittrell Chavous, 32, of 313 High St. Thursday after he allegedly sped away from a sheriff ’s deputy during a traffic stop.

Chavous stopped his vehicle on Thee Hester Road after a brief chase and was charged with a felony count of speeding to elude arrest. He was also charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sex ofender violat ion

Donald Jamal Welborn, 31, of Three Rivers, Texas was arrested by sheriff ’s deputies Wednesday on a felony charge of a convicted sex offender failing to report a new address.

A warrant for Welborn’s arrest was issued Oct. 8. He was initially held under a $500 secured bond. He is slated to appear in district court Tuesday.

Fraud-related charge

Joselynne Seward, 26, of 476 Allie Clay Rd. was arrested by Roxboro police Monday on a felony charge of obtaining property by false pretense.

Seward was initially held under a $500 secured bond, pending a Dec. 1 appearance in district court.
