By Brooke Shaw and Tyler Atkins

DeWayne Vaughn is Person High School’s Rock Star of the Week. DeWayne Vaughn is Person High School’s Rock Star of the Week. Dewayne Vaughn is a senior at Person High School (PHS), and thanks to PHS guidance counselor Connee White, he is our Rock Star of the Week.

Ms. White said, “Dewayne is a determined and hard working person. He loves people, and is willing to help others. Dewayne has a great attitude! He works at the Person County Recreation Arts and Parks Department as a referee for youth sports. He has played football, ran track, and is currently a member of the PHS Men’s Tennis team.”

Senior Taylor Foote said, “Dewayne is just a good person. Nothing has ever been handed to him. He has worked hard to achieve his goals.”

When Vaughn was asked what he thought of the nomination, he said, “I do everything the teachers tell me to do. I am never late, and I turn in my assignments early.”

Vaughn said his motivation for doing well in school is to “get out of Roxboro, go to college, and to find success.”

Vaughn is a member of National Honor Society and Student Council. He is a GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) ambassador, which allows him to work with the GEAR UP staff to inform students about college readiness and preparation. Vaughn is interested in attending Appalachian State University or North Carolina State University and possibly majoring in sports medicine.
