Former Rocket Ellis named second-team All-MEAC

Submitted Former Person High School baseball player Cody Ellis was a second-team All-ME AC player this season at Norfolk State. Submitted Former Person High School baseball standout Cody Ellis finished out a fine college career with an outstanding senior season at Norfolk State University.

Ellis led the team in hitting with a .349 batting average and drove in 13 RBIs. The Spartans’ second baseman started in 33 of the team’s 49 games and would have finished in top-10 in hitting in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), but did not accumulate enough plate appearances to earn that honor.

The former Rocket had a blistering finish to his season, going 20-for-44 (.455) with seven RBIs in the final 13 games of his senior campaign and was a secondteam All-MEAC honoree.

Norfolk State finished the season with 23-26 overall record and were 14-10 in the MEAC. The Spartans advanced all the way to the MEAC tournament championship game before falling to Bethune-Cookman 4-1.

The the conference title game, Ellis was 2-for-4 with an RBI single in the third inning.

The former Rocket played two years at Patrick Henry Community College before transferring to the MEAC program. In his two years at Patrick Henry, Ellis drove in 51 runs and earned second-team All-Region honors as a freshman.
