Roxboro police arrest two people in connection with recent break-in

Roxboro police arrested two people Thursday for their alleged involvement in a February break-in at an Elm Street residence.

Troy Lewis Dunn, 20, of 481 Hicks-Yarboro Rd. and Heather Blake Zimmerman, 19, of 11927 Virgilina Rd. were each charged with felony counts of breaking and entering, larceny and conspiracy in connection with the February break-in.

Dunn and Zimmerman were each initially held under $2,500 secured bonds. The two are scheduled to appear in Person County District Court on May 13.

Intimidating witness alleged

Deputies with the Person County Sheriff ’s Office arrested Mark Bumphus Jr., 53, of 603 Walker St. Wednesday on a felony charge of intimidating a witness.

Bumphus was jailed under a $20,000 secured bond. He is slated to appear in district court on April 14.

Drug charges lodged

Anthony Scott Tuck, 28, of 11995 Virgilina Rd. was arrested by sheriff ’s deputies Sunday on felony charges of breaking and entering and possession of a controlled substance.

Tuck was allegedly found to be in possession of a controlled substance when deputies took him into custody to serve a burglary related arrest warrant.

Tuck was held under a $10,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in district court on May 6.

Cocaine-related arrest

Roxboro police arrested Johnny Ray Champion, 51, of 711 Leasburg Rd., Lot 61 last week on a pair of drug charges following a traffic stop at Roses on North Madison Boulevard.

Champion, who was initially stopped for having a suspended license plate, was reportedly found to be in possession of 3.1 grams of crack cocaine. He was charged with a felony count of possession of cocaine and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Champion was initially held under a $4,000 secured bond. He is slated to appear in district court on April 22.

DWI checkpoint arrest

Sheriff ’s deputies, who were conducting a DWI checkpoint at the intersection of Moore’s Mill Road and Helena-Moriah Road with the North Carolina Highway Patrol and Roxboro police last week, made a drug-related arrest.

Wesley Nelson Jr., 37, of 1061 Tingen Mine Rd. was initially held at the checkpoint for driving without a valid license. He was later reportedly found to be in possession of a small amount of crack cocaine and marijuana.

Nelson was charged with a felony count of possession of cocaine and misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Tuck was held under a $3,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in district court on April 24.

Fraud charge lodged

Michael Glenn Thaxton, 41, of 561 Thaxton Rd. was arrested by sheriff ’s deputies Sunday on a felony charge of obtaining property by false pretense in connection with an incident that reportedly occurred on March 13.

Thaxton was released under a $1,000 unsecured bond, pending an April 8 appearance in district court.
